The dual and paradoxical usage of the term Farah (Joy) in the Holy Quran, which is sometimes commanded and sometimes forbidden, constitutes the central inquiry of this research. This apparent dichotomy and the lack of a coherent process-oriented framework have complicated the precise understanding of happiness within the Islamic educational system. This study aims to decode this paradox and propose a developmental psychological model for happiness, based on a conceptual analysis of Farah. Employing hermeneutic analysis and structural semantic tools (including syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations), this research elucidates the semantic network of Farah and subsequently correlates the findings with the principles of positive psychology. The findings indicate that the Quran outlines a three-level developmental model: level one, Passive-Worldly Farah, is a superficial and self-centered happiness that corresponds to hedonic well-being and the concept of the hedonic treadmill. Level two, Reflective-Grateful Farah, is a transitional stage that renders natural happiness meaningful and transcendent through the cognitive process of gratitude (Shukr). Level three, Eudaimonic-Transcendent Farah, is a profound and enduring happiness originating from a divine source, aligning with eudaimonic well-being and human flourishing. This model demonstrates that by critiquing heedless joy and reorienting natural happiness, the Quran provides a precise roadmap for true happiness.
