Adjustment to sadness is a dynamic and purposeful process through which, by altering one's attitudes, behaviors, or both, an individual fulfills their needs in the face of loss and maintains effective functioning. The present study elucidated the process model of adjustment to sadness based on Islamic sources by identifying its antecedents, strategies, and consequences. The qualitative content analysis method (Hsieh & Shannon) was employed, utilizing purposive sampling from Islamic sources and documentary collection. A total of 157 narratives from authentic hadith sources were analyzed during open, axial, and selective coding. The content validity of the components was confirmed by the evaluations of 9 experts in psychology and Islamic seminary sciences. The findings revealed a model comprising two antecedents (worldview of suffering, value screening), six strategies (legitimate bodily expression, semantic reconstruction of the event, ritual sanctuary, belief in transcendental support, exposure to support, and sublimation through the awliya [saintly guardians]), two consequences (Sakinah [tranquility], belief in Tamhis [divine refinement]), and a positive feedback loop. The results underscore the dynamism, growth-orientation, and differentiation of this adjustment from emotion regulation.
