Prediction of Cognitive Fusion Based on the Image of God and Mindfulness: The Mediating Role of Coping Self Efficacy

Abstract

The aim of present study was determining the role of image of God and mindfulness in predicting cognitive fusion, with coping self-efficacy as a mediating variable. The research method was correlational and employed structural equation modeling. The study population consisted of individuals over 18 years old in 2025, and the research sample included 216 participants selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Image of God Questionnaire based on the Divine Names, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale and the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire. The findings indicated that image of God was positively correlated with coping self-efficacy and mindfulness was also positively correlated with coping self-efficacy. Moreover, coping self-efficacy, mindfulness and image of God were all negatively and significantly correlated with cognitive fusion. In the model, all regression relationships were significant. Path analysis showed that the paths from mindfulness to coping self-efficacy, mindfulness to cognitive fusion, image of God to coping self-efficacy, and coping self-efficacy to cognitive fusion were significant. Overall, based on the bootstrap test, the mediation of coping self-efficacy was confirmed. the results indicated that mindfulness and image of God, considering coping self efficacy as a mediating construct, were able to effectively predict cognitive fusion.
