Attitudes towards children and childbearing based on Islamic sources

Abstract

In any society, the attitude of individuals towards childbearing plays a decisive role in the rate of birth and childbearing. Accordingly, this study is dedicated to examining Islamic sources about childbearing in order to extract a conceptual model of the attitude of towards childbearing. The method used in this study is a qualitative analysis of the content of religious texts, which is used to understand and infer psychological teachings from Islamic sources, and seeks to answer these questions: a) what are the types of attitudes towards childbearing in Islamic sources? b) What is the validity of the types of attitudes towards childbearing in Islamic sources? Results showed that there are three main types of attitudes towards, from which 21 general components and 61 inferences were obtained from selected verses and narrations: 1) Positive attitudes towards the absoluteness of the child, 2) Negative attitudes towards the absoluteness of the child, 3) Separate attitudes towards the child. Content Validity Index, Content Validity Ratio, and opinions of three experts were used to evaluate and validate the findings.
