Conceptual model of perfectionism based on Islamic sources

Abstract

Perfectionism, in psychology, is an important, complex, and often unclear topic. The purpose of this paper was to formulate a model of perfectionism based on Islamic sources. For this purpose the qualitative content analysis method of Sieh and Shannon was used in the conceptualization, and the survey method was used to validate the model. In the model of qualitative content analysis Quran and first-hand Hadith sources were used. After identifying and selecting the verbal and semantic units suitable for perfection and perfectionism and searching for them in the mentioned sources, open axial1 and axial2 and selective coding was done and the components of perfectionism, factors affecting perfectionism and its dimensions were extracted. In the Next step, CVI validity index and CVR content validity ratio were approved by 9 psychologists with seminary education. The findings of the research showed that perfectionism in Islamic sources is a positive characteristic, a kind of Fetrah tendency towards excellence and aversion to imperfection. The fundamentals of perfectionism are all-round rationalization, recognition of defects in oneself, benefiting from the existence of patterns and models, and not neglecting the remembrance of God as a result of the editing model. This model has the ability to be used to design educational-psychological protocols.
