Abstract

In the history of ideas and theories, the concept of gratitude enjoys a long life, but in the history of psychology has relatively short past. Based on Islamic sources, gratitude has been introduced as a superior reaction to the goodness of others and a measure of humanity and separation from the border of being animal. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to explain the components of gratitude based on the concept of Islamic gratitude, which was analyzed using the method of qualitative content analysis of religious texts. Components of gratitude were extracted from Islamic sources. Data validity (reliability check) was confirmed using the Content Validity Ratio and Content Validity Index with the help of the experts' specification table. The research findings showed that gratitude has two internal and external components; internal component is cognitive-emotional and the external component is verbal and behavioral, which can be used to strengthen interpersonal relationships.
