Abstract

In Islamic hadiths, the inverse relationship between desire and satisfaction is stated. The purpose of this study is its experimental and psychological study. The method of the present study is descriptive and correlational. The population of this study included 200 students in Qom who were selected by convenience sampling method. The research instrument was the Wish and Life Satisfaction questionnaires. Findings show that the relation of overall satisfaction with external desire was negative and significant and in contrast, the relation with internal desire was positive and significant. In the regression of external desires, the subscales of "wealth" and "beauty" predicted life satisfaction; but the “reputation” subscales were not meaningful and did not predict life satisfaction. In regression of inner desires, the subscales of "growth", "communication" and "cooperation" predicted life satisfaction. Health subscales are not meaningful and do not predict life satisfaction.
