The Role of Aspirations in Life Satisfaction based on Islamic Amal Operation Model: A Conceptual Review

Document Type : Scientific-research article

Abstract

In  psychological  resources  can  be  achieved  at least three pers - pectives on the relationship bet -ween aspirations and life satisfac - tion; existence of  relationship,  non-existence  of  relationship, and  dual  relationship,  based  on  the  internal-external  aspirations.  Based  on  Islamic  Amal Operation Model, (amal lit. aspiration) this study aimed to investigate the role of aspirations in life satisfaction,   with   descriptive   and   analytical method using multi-stage analysis of the Islamic authentic sources.
The results showed that based on Islamic Amal Operation Model that includes two subsystems: ‘Aql-oriented  approaching  sub - system  (‘aql  lit. intellect) and Jahl-oriented avoidance subsystem (jahl   lit.   ignorance),   operates   through   three processes  of  expansion  of  Amal,  shortening  of Amal, and lengthening of Amal. The results also showed that the relationship between aspirations and life satisfaction is a dual process.  In the first process    mediated    by    ‘Aql    structure,    the aspirations   have   an   increasing   role   in   life
satisfaction,   while   in   the   second   process mediated by Jahl structure, the aspirations play a decreasing role in life satisfaction.
Based  on  the  consequences  of  lengthening, expanding and shortening of Amal, in the above processes,   the   mechanisms   decreasing   and increasing life satisfaction include: “ignoring the facts  vs.  considering  the  facts”,  “forgetting  the goal-directed action  vs.  Paying  attention  to  the goal-directed  action”,  and  “denial  of  definite beliefs vs. belief in definite beliefs” that each of them includes more subsidiary items.
